Writers FAQ - Eligibility

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age before the Program start date and applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

Will UFEG sponsor work visas? 

No.

Can writers with previously produced credits apply? 

Yes.

Will I be eligible if I previously signed an option agreement for a script that was not produced?

Yes, however the applicant cannot submit the script to apply.  If the option moves forward, the applicant cannot work on the project while in the Universal Writers Program.

Are writing teams eligible?

No.  We are unable to accommodate writing teams at this time.

Do I need to have literary representation to apply? 

No.

Are Comcast-NBCUniversal employees eligible to apply? 

Yes.  If accepted the applicant will have to terminate their current Comcast-NBCUniversal employment.

Do I have to be a member of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) to apply? 

No.

Is professional writing or production experience required? 

No.  However, it has proven beneficial for past participants to have had experience, education and/or training in feature film production.
