Composers FAQ - Eligibility

Who is eligible to apply?

(a) Applicants must be authorized to work legally in the United States. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.  

(b) Applicants must be 21 years of age as of February 1st, 2021.

(c) Applicants must be the sole composer of any music submitted. Material composed by more than one composer will not be accepted.

Will NBCUniversal sponsor work visas?

No.

Can composers with theatrically released and/or commercially distributed credits apply?

Yes.

Is there a limit to the number of theatrically released and/or commercially distributed credits an applicant can have?

No.

Are composing partners eligible?

No. Applicants must be the sole composer of any music submitted. Material composed by more than one composer will be disqualified.

Do I need to have representation to apply? 

No.

Are Comcast-NBCUniversal employees eligible to apply? 

Yes. If accepted, composers will have to work with their manager or direct supervisor to request time-off approval.

Is professional composing or production experience required?

No. However, it has proven beneficial for past participants to have had experience, education and/or training in music composition and production.

Do I need to be part of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) to apply?

No.

Do I need to be a member of Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), American Society of Composers Authors & Publishers (ASCAP), Society of European Stage Authors & Composers (SESAC), Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL), or any other performance rights organizations or music guilds to apply?

No.
